Sarah Waller CBE

Sarah Waller joined the King’s Fund in 2000 to develop the Enhancing the Healing Environment (EHE) programme following a career in the NHS and Department of Health in nursing and HR management.

The EHE programme has worked with over 250 teams from organisations across the country including NHS trusts, hospices, prisons and care homes, to improve service quality through environmental change. Most recently the programme has focused on improving environments for end of life care and in developing more supportive design for people with dementia. Sarah developed the dementia friendly environmental assessment tools which are now in use nationally and internationally.

The EHE programme was completed in 2014 and Sarah is now an Associate Specialist at the Association for Dementia Studies, University of Worcester.

Sarah was a member of the independent Liverpool Care Pathway Review Panel and is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Panel on One Chance to Get it Right. She is a judge for the Building Better Healthcare Awards and was a member of the Design Council’s Advisory Board for its ‘Reducing violence and aggression in A&E’ and ‘Living Well With Dementia’ Challenge.  A former non-executive director and vice chair of the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Sarah was appointed CBE for services to Nursing and the NHS in 2008.
