CW+ is the chosen charity partner for Kensington + Chelsea Art Week 2020 (KCAW). The week-long programme based in the creative borough of Kensington and Chelsea runs from 1st-11th October, and encompasses the bright and eclectic mix of artistic talent and events happening in the area. KCAW celebrates the rich heritage of the borough by opening doors to local creative spaces along with leading organisations in the area, to facilitate further public engagement in the local culture.
COVID-19 restrictions within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital mean there are limitations on visiting the hospital and onsite events. This year, CW+ have created a programme of virtual events and projects, which can be accessed directly via the KCAW website.
Here is the low-down of what we’ll be showcasing throughout the week:
Our Arts Director, Trystan Hawkins, will be hosting a live webinar discussion around art and design within a healthcare setting, exploring previous, current and upcoming projects and the impact this has on our patients and staff.
Our Musician in Residence and Music Researcher Andrew Hall will be performing a live piano concert via Zoom. This will include a number of improv pieces, plus requests from you in the virtual audience! Andrew has been performing live concerts like these for seriously ill patients in our Intensive Care Unit as part of our Arts for All programme.
CW+ have specifically curated a new Virtual Arts Tour for KCAW. The tour provides an exclusive insight into the CW+ collection, which contains over 2,000 works, from traditional mediums of painting and sculpture, through to digital technology and state-of-the-art software.
Our ongoing Virtual Connections programme, stemming from our Arts for All in-hospital participatory programme, showcases content provided by Arts for All artists which can be viewed online and through patient bedside screens via Hospedia. This content is accessible through KCAW, with new content from our musicians and artists regularly uploaded.
