Brentford FC, Harlequins FC, and England Rugby Sevens delight patients this Christmas at West Middlesex University Hospital

Christmas came early for patients at West Middlesex University Hospital this year, as their local sporting heroes from Brentford FC, Harlequins FC and England Rugby Sevens all paid a visit to spread some festive cheer.

Brentford FC have been delivering on the pitch in recent weeks, but this week members of the First Team and B Team squad delivered in a different way at West Middlesex. The team spent time distributing presents, signing autographs and chatting to adult patients on Kew Ward, as well as visiting our children’s inpatient ward Starlight to spread some Christmas cheer in the run up to the big day. The visit has become a tradition with gifts donated by Brentford FC players and staff handed over to adults and children who have to spend time in hospital over the Christmas period.

Brentford top scorer Ollie Watkins said: “It’s nice to put a smile on people’s faces and give them a little surprise. Coming here opens your eyes and you realise how lucky we are to do what we love to do. It really makes you appreciate the little things.”

Harlequins FC, who we have worked with closely throughout 2019 and England Rugby Sevens also paid visits to grateful adult and paediatric patients at the hospital with Vanessa Sloane, Director of Nursing at West Middlesex commenting “Everyone was delighted to meet the players and it was a lovely festive treat at what can be a difficult time to be in hospital.”

Alongside the Trust, we would like to thank Harlequins FC, Brentford FC and England Rugby Sevens for their ongoing support, and for giving up their time to make Christmas in hospital a little easier for our patients at West Middlesex.
