Support from local community transforms Christmas in hospital for our patients

As 2019 draws to a close, CW+ would like to say a huge thank you to our local communities who generously donated gifts this year, making Christmas in hospital a little easier for our patients at Chelsea and Westminster and West Middlesex University Hospitals.

The  festivities kicked off at both sites with Hasbro‘s annual Global Day of Joy. We had a visit from the one and only Thor and his superhero friends, who spread the Christmas cheer all day on our children’s wards with gifts, games and crafts. At West Middlesex, our friends from Ecoworld paid a visit to Starlight ward, just a month after their volunteers spent time helping to transform the ward as part of our Sun and Stars Appeal. We would also like to thank AT&T GB Limited, Japan Airlines, Thorgills Estate Agents, Morrisons Brentford branch, Dell EMC, That’s a Wrap London and Westside Radio for their generous donations to our children’s wards at West Middlesex.

Patients over at Chelsea and Westminster were not forgotten, staff at Leyland SDM hardware store on the King’s Road generously gave up their Christmas party budget to purchase toiletry gift sets for our adolescent patients. Local children’s charity Little Lives UK donated games and arts and crafts for our younger patients as part of their Christmas campaign. They also very generously donated new clothes and toiletries for young patients as part of our new Buddy Bags scheme. Buddy Bags is a project designed by play specialist Rebecca Taylor, who submitted the idea to our latest funding call competition for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals. The Buddy Bags will provide some home comforts for children who enter our hospitals with little or no possessions. Click here to read more about the project, and the other innovative staff-led ideas we have funded. We would also like to thank Cameron House School, Round Hill Capital, Smart Communications, and locals Phyllis Coughlin and Karoline and Leopold Ostberg for their generous donations.

Once again this year, the support from our local communities has been overwhelming and has made such an incredible difference to patients and staff during the holidays, we cannot thank you all enough.
