Creativity and Wellbeing Week 2020

Creativity and Wellbeing Week is an annual event from the London Arts in Health Forum and Culture, Health and Wellbeing Alliance celebrating Arts in Health activity in London.

This year, due to COVID-19, the festival is completely virtual. The key identity of the festival remains the same, to celebrate the groundbreaking work happening around the country bringing together culture, creativity, health and wellbeing all under the theme of Positive Futures.

Every day this week (18-22 May) we will be showcasing aspects of our award-winning Arts in Health programme. Keep an eye out on our social media (@cwpluscharity) for updates.

Art and Design film

To kick off Creativity and Wellbeing Week, we’re sharing our short film all about our award-winning Arts in Health programme at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Hear from Trystan Hawkins, CW+ Patient Environment Director as well as clinicians and hospital staff as they take us through the rich history of art and design in our hospitals and what it means for our patients.

Royal College of Art collaboration

We are pleased to release two films produced in collaboration with the Royal College of Art  (RCA). We commissioned RCA graduates to submit a film to be included within our RELAX Digital programme, and displayed in various areas throughout our hospitals. The winning pitches came from artists Kit Mead and Eda Sarman.

RELAX Digital and soundscapes

Our RELAX Digital programme places digital artwork in waiting and treatment areas throughout our hospitals. The moving image pieces are screened on high definition displays and are used to distract and engage patients during their hospital visit.

Arts for All: Virtual Connections

Virtual Connections is a new digital online arts programme to support the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and those self-isolating in the wider community. Based on our existing Arts for All programme, Virtual Connections allows our artists to continue to digitally engage with patients, family, friends and staff who are either in hospital, or at home in the community.

VR content

Our Future Hospital and CW Innovation programmes explore the latest innovations in technology within an Arts in Health setting. Stemming from our hugely successful and award winning Relax Digital project, we are now developing this work into a more immersive, personal experience for the patient through the use of Virtual Reality (VR).

The Zoo

Our bespoke, digital artwork commission The Zoo is a 90-minute-long film which can be played on a seamless loop, featuring moving portraits of 42 different animals, ranging from domestic to wild. The film was designed with creative filmmakers Accademia to provide a positive distraction to children waiting or being treated in the Children’s Emergency Department as Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, who can often be anxious, distressed or experiencing pain.
