Best For You digital welcomes 100,000 users and marks Children’s Mental Health Week 2024

Following Children’s Mental Health Week last month, CW+ is pleased to report on the growing reach of the Best For You Digital platform, which provides NHS-approved support to young people and their families and carers.

Best For You is a new approach to mental health care designed for – and in consultation with – young people and their families, run in partnership by CW+, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust (CNWL), Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and West London NHS Trust (and evaluated by Imperial College).

It launched in November 2021 in response to the ongoing crisis in young people’s mental health, when one in six children aged five to 16 were identified as having a probable mental health problem. Since then, the programme has gone from strength to strength.

The Best For You website brings together tried-and-tested digital resources to provide 24/7 access to information and support for young people’s mental health. It includes content on a wide range of topics, including information about everyday wellbeing and mental health conditions, digital mental health resources, and links to support from the NHS and other organisations.

Since launch, the website has welcomed over 107,000 users including visitors from every continent except Antarctica (though the vast majority of users are in the UK). The Best For You app library has also seen over 29,000 page views. This represents a huge number of people who have been able to access NHS-assured information and efficient signposting to the most appropriate source of support if needed.

From 5 to 11 February 2024 Best For You digital marked the tenth Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme this year was #MyVoiceMatters, with a particular focus on empowering children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.

Content included a blog with practical tips for self-expression, full of links to some of the digital resources available through Best For You, including the Best For You app library, NATTER text service, and Kooth.

To share this blog with as many young people as possible, Best For You partnered with Dr Ally Jaffee, an NHS doctor and mental health speaker, to produce an Instagram reel that reached over 1,100 people.

In keeping with this year’s theme, content also included examples of the real-life stories that a range of young people and young adults shared with Best For You.

Alongside the growth of the digital platform, Wes Streeting, the Labour MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, visited Arc, the first of two state-of-the-art NHS spaces being created as part of Best For You. During his visit, Mr Streeting cited Best For You as an example of ‘pockets of innovation’ that were ‘the best of the NHS’.

Chris Chaney, the Chief Executive of CW+, said: ‘From the very beginning, the intention was that Best For You would act as an exemplar that could be scaled, with our learnings implemented across a variety of settings across the UK. It’s a testament to the strength of the partnership working across all of the organisations involved in Best For You that we are already beginning to see this come to fruition, with international visits to the digital offer and the launch of Best For You Denmark. We look forward to continuing to build on this momentum to ensure as many young people as possible benefit from Best For You.’
