Applications open for third Horizon Fellowship programme

CW Innovation is encouraging staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to share their innovative project ideas and apply for the third cohort of the Horizon Fellowship programme. This is an exciting opportunity for staff to develop new ideas to improve patient care and experience, as well as gaining new knowledge and skills.

Horizon Fellowship programme

Led by CW Innovation and delivered by DigitalHealth.London, the Horizon Fellowship programme empowers and supports Trust staff to lead and deliver innovation projects that are bringing much-needed change for staff and patients at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital.

The first 12-month Horizon Fellowship programme took place in 2022, and over the past two years the programme has been hugely successful, supporting a total of 32 members of staff at the Trust. Many of the Fellows’ projects have come to fruition, helping to embed digital across both hospital sites.

Natalie Nunes, Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the Trust and a 2022/23 Horizon Fellow, developed her idea to use virtual reality VR headsets to reduce pain and anxiety for women undergoing manual vacuum aspiration procedures after experiencing loss during the early stages of pregnancy. The technology is now being offered for a range of outpatient procedures across the Trust.

Natalie said: ‘The programme showed me what is possible when you have an idea and the support to make it a reality. I want to keep making things better and am already looking for more I can do.’

Benefits of the Fellowship

  • Innovation: Promotes a culture of innovation at the Trust, developing innovative ideas and addressing real-world challenges.
  • Networking: Connects staff with like-minded professionals and provides peer-to-peer support. Six learning days take place across the year, and Fellows have access to workshops, resources and events.
  • Professional development: Expands skills and knowledge – Fellows can also select a mentor from high-profile leaders in business, and the health and care sector.

Tom Carlisle, Innovation Business Partner at CW+, said: ‘We are looking forward to partnering with DigitalHealth.London for the third year of the programme, which will once again provide Trust staff with the fantastic opportunity to receive the support they need to bring their innovative ideas to life. Trust staff from all roles, departments and levels are welcome to apply to become a Horizon Fellow and we can’t wait to hear their project ideas’.
