Borough of Hounslow wins prize for Sun and Stars Appeal this New Year's Day

4 January 2019

CW+ is delighted to hear that the London Borough of Hounslow’s entry in to the London New Year’s Day Parade this week won 10th place! The Borough will receive an incredible £5,000 for the Mayor of Hounslow’s two chosen charities, which includes our Sun and Stars Appeal.

Hounslow competed alongside Boroughs from across the capital in a bid to win a top ten place prize in the LNYDP Borough Competition this year. Each London Borough entered their performance group and parade float. The entries were judged on who best represented the LNYDP 2019 theme, London Welcomes the World. Hounslow’s creative entry came from Feltham Arts Association and was entitled Hands up for Your Colours. The incredible performance included dancers from OTB Dance Company and Dhol drummers from Asian British Music.

Our Sun and Stars Appeal is raising £100,000 to transform the children’s wards at West Middlesex University Hospital into a child-friendly, welcoming and calming environment with better facilities specifically designed to make being in hospital easier for children and their parents. The transformation will include a new play room, a ‘home-from-home’ parents’ area, entertainment equipment and technology at every bedside, and bespoke artwork throughout.

Thanks to our generous supporters, we have now raised more than £70,000 but are still looking for support from our local community to achieve our goal. If you would like to get involved, please email
