ART AND DESIGN
Our art and design programme – which combines digital, visual and performing arts with innovative design – aims to transform the hospital experience and environment for patients, their families and the staff who care for them.

-
ARTS FOR ALL
In partnership with staff, patients, artists and partners, we designed our Arts for All programme to provide meaningful cultural opportunities, which offer distraction, entertainment and social interaction.
-
DESIGN AND ENVIRONMENT
Our Design and Environment programme transforms and enhances clinical spaces. We work with renowned partners who specialise in health, technology and environmental design, to create the optimum healing environment for our patients, families and staff.
-
FUTURE HOSPITAL
We work with a diverse range of health technology partners with the aim of further investing in healthcare technology to elevate patient care and empower and enhance our staff.
-
COMMISSIONS
An essential part of our arts and design programme includes working with emerging and established artists to produce unique commissions for our hospital sites.
-
ART COLLECTION
Research has shown that visual art has a positive effect in healthcare settings. Our visual and digital arts collection, displayed in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, is made up of over 1,800 artworks, many of which are bespoke commissions.
-
'THE HEALING ARTS' BOOK
We are delighted to have published a book to celebrate our pioneering arts in health programme which we have been running for over 25 years.
-
RESEARCH AND EVALUATION
Underpinning all of our work is an objective to grow a robust body of evidence that clearly demonstrates the impact on patient outcomes, care delivery and cost effectiveness of these programmes and enhancements. We work with a group of academic partners on project evaluation and, through the dissemination of our findings, are now collaborating and sharing knowledge with sister organisations in Japan, Korea, Australia, Europe and the US.
-
SHARING OUR WORK
We are delighted to be a part of both national and international networks of arts in health professionals. As a leader in our field, we are keen to share resources with our colleagues in the NHS and further afield, including our research, guidelines, and a selection of digital artworks free of charge.
