ADRIAN GARRATT
Having played the violin since a young age, Adrian Garratt has varied performance experience – traditional classical (orchestral, chamber, solo), street performance, theatre shows, schools, comedy clubs, and cabaret shows. For over ten years Adrian has played violin in hospitals, and he has been involved in arts schemes at the Royal Brompton Hospital and Harefield Hospital where his sessions place emphasis on audience engagement.
Adrian performs at both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital on behalf of CW+. He plays from memory, with a vast repertoire covering many genres. Each visit is patient lead – he does not work with a programme in mind, but rather patients are given opportunity to direct what they hear. Adrian describes his sessions as “conversation with soundtrack” and creates space for personal interaction, even allowing others chance to learn and to play his violin.
Outside of the Hospital environment, Adrian performs with his trio The Bowfins. These performances are part recital, part stand-up and physical comedy, and always improvisational.
