Celebrating Black History Month

Each year, Black History Month gives us an opportunity to celebrate diversity in our incredible hospital community. We have 100 nations represented across our hospital staff and 1 in 7 staff are Black Caribbean or Black African. This October, we’re taking a look as far back as 1805 at a selection of notable Black men and women who have made a significant contribution to society, their countries and the world.

Take a look below, we’ve chosen individuals with an emphasis on nursing, medicine and the sciences – or click on the leaflet to the right to read a timeline of key events in  Black history. We’ll also be sharing video messages from our partners and members of the community about what Black History Month means to them – so stay tuned!
