HELEN BRIDGES

Helen Bridges created a stunning 3-part design for the windows of the David Erskine Ward Butterfly Room at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The Butterfly Rooms are specialist palliative care rooms, designed to provide comfort to patients and their families. As part of a refurbishment of one of the rooms funded by the Friends of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, these vinyl window transfers were designed to provide visual stimulation, and to bring colour and natural themes into the space.

The intricate layers enable the viewer to get lost in the imagery, and peep through into the public atrium. The translucency of the film allows natural daylight to shine through, changing the quality of the artwork throughout the day as the light changes.

We also commissioned Helen to produce artwork throughout the Emergency Observation Unit at Chelsea, that can be enjoyed by a range of staff and patients but also incorporates supportive art and design principles that can help those with dementia. Using London as a starting point Helen created wallpapers incorporating London’s most famous landmarks whilst a botanical theme inspired her window film, bringing a little of the outside in.
