MONIKA BRAVO

Artist Monika Bravo has created a scheme of artwork for the Urgent Care Centre. Her overlaying of natural imagery, city scenes and bold colours transforms the department. The work, originally conceived as one long thin image, has been split into sections and applied to corridor spaces, treatments rooms and windows.

“A city is a vessel and container not only of buildings and bridges, but of human experience; it is in the way we perceive the space and time that we form our memories.”

The title of Bravo’s design, Without Stones There Is No Arch, refers to writer Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities, in which Marco Polo describes a bridge stone by stone, emphasising that it is no single stone that supports a bridge, but ‘the line the arch forms’, just as every member of staff in a hospital contributes to the care of patients, and no one person can do their job without the support of others.
