My brother's experience with skin cancer
I got referred from my doctor to Chelsea and Westminster to examine quite a large mole on my arm.
How my journey started with AI and Chelsea and Westminster was because of my younger brother.
He had a mark, a mole on his arm which, to be honest with you, over the course of time gradually got worse. After a lot of persuading, he went to the doctors and got an appointment.
This was before AI. They looked at it, took some biopsies and it came back, unfortunately, as skin cancer. They cut it out, but unfortunately it went to his lymph glands and they found spots of cancer on his lymph glands.
Watching my brother's treatment
He had quite a major operation to cut quite a few lymph glands out and then they sent him home.
Unfortunately, over the course of time, it spread to his lungs and he had cancer spots all on his lungs. He had a pretty bad time of it.
He was in hospital and they put him on immunotherapy, which made him really, really ill.
To cut a long story short, I think he had about five or six sessions of it and, touch wood, it’s cleared it.
Being referred to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital
This is the reason why I ended up on my journey.
I got the same mark and mole in exactly the same place as my brother. Of course, all the family urged me, and my daughters urged me, to go to the doctors, which I did.
He looked at it and, with the family history and my brother’s experience, he sent me to Chelsea and Westminster quite quickly, to be honest with you.
Having an AI-supported assessment
This is when I had the AI.
I went there and the people were really nice. I sat down and the guy came in with a camera and took the picture. Basically, that was it.
Within, I think, the next day, or it might have been the day after, I got a text message saying all clear.
Getting results quickly
And that was it.
No stress or worry for weeks waiting for results. It was immediate. It was so quick.
If it did go the other way and you did have it, they know straight away and they’ll have you in and get something done.
What can I say? It was just brilliant.
