We have worked with The National Lottery Heritage Fund to explore the history of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, which reaches back 300 years to the original Westminster Hospital.
We have delved into the hospital archives to create and install a permanent exhibition celebrating our hospital’s rich history. This new exhibition is on permanent display in the Outpatient’s waiting area on the lower ground floor of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. The exhibition explores three main themes, click below to read more from Steven Lawes, our Heritage Officer.
Timeline and Exhibition
We have installed a permanent exhibition and heritage timeline on the lower ground floor of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, exploring key themes of our history which dates back to 1719.
While exploring the hospital archives, our drawer-in-residence Anouk Mercier, found a photograph of 50 anonymous nurses, taken in 1919. Struck by the fact none of their names had been recorded, Anouk began her 50 Nurses project, drawing portraits of each individual nurse to celebrate the important role they played in our hospitals history.
