Consultant Cardiologist Dr Sunthar Kanaganayagam, who works at West Middlesex University Hospital, is calling on the local community to support ‘Hospital Next Door’, a CW+ fundraising campaign to support the development of the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre at West Mid.Â
Enhancing care through community support
‘Hospital Next Door’ aims to raise £1.5m to enhance the NHS-funded facility with a cutting-edge cardiac MRI scanner, supporting better heart health for local people, alongside modern, patient-friendly spaces. At the heart of the campaign is the ‘buy a brick’ initiative, inviting supporters to add their name and message to a virtual wall on the CW+ website, symbolising community support for the project.Â
A personal connection to West Mid
Sunthar, who was born at West Middlesex and grew up in the local area, now treats patients with chest pain, heart disease and valve disease in his role at the hospital. He says the new centre will be a game-changer for local healthcare: ‘Imagine having world-class diagnostic facilities just 20 minutes down the road instead of having to travel across London. Faster diagnosis means faster treatment, and that can save lives. This hospital has always been part of my family’s story, and now it can be part of yours too. That’s why I’m asking everyone in our community to get involved.’Â

What the new centre will deliver
Due to open in autumn 2026, the Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre will deliver:Â
- 57% more diagnostic and treatment procedures each year–almost 85,000 in totalÂ
- faster, moreaccurate results for conditions including cancer and heart diseaseÂ
- best-in-class cardiac imaging– vital in Hounslow, where heart failure admission rates are the highest in EnglandÂ
- agreatly improved environment for patients undergoing oncology, haematology and kidney dialysis treatmentÂ
Every brick makes a difference
Sunthar adds: ‘Please support the ‘Hospital Next Door’ campaign if you can. Lots of people giving a small amount can be just as powerful as one big donation. Think of it as helping your neighbour, your parents, or even yourself. Every brick brings us closer to opening the doors.’Â
