Sun and Stars

Our Sun and Stars Appeal raised £100,000 to update the children’s inpatient wards at West Middlesex University Hospital.

We transformed the wards into a child-friendly, welcoming environment designed to make being in hospital that little bit easier for children and their parents.

Improvements included installing a dedicated space for teenagers, a new playroom designed by specialist children’s play equipment supplier Tigerplay, a ‘home-from-home’ parents’ area, and entertainment equipment and technology at every bedside.

Uplifting artwork

As part of the project we commissioned London-based graphic artist Rob Lowe, known as Supermundane, to create bespoke artwork.

Supermundane worked with young patients, their families and staff at the hospital to design and create distinctive, colourful wall artwork and signage. The images were installed throughout the ward, creating a fun environment for children being treated in the hospital.

Q&A with Supermundane

CW+ caught up with Supermundane, following the installation of his bespoke artwork to transform the children’s inpatient ward at West Middlesex University Hospital.

I wanted my work to be abstract enough to allow for different interpretations – for the children to see whatever they like within the shapes
